I thought I was an alien - Soko (I thought I was an alien, 2012)

Director: Spike Jonze (filmed on the iPhone!)

Soko is back! Soko is back! It’s French girl adorable time! Nowness interviewed the kooky one:

Do you think you’re an alien?

I don’t have a lot of self-confidence so I always feel like I’m the weirdo and that maybe I’m from another planet. I don’t strongly believe in aliens but I think the myths surrounding them are fascinating. I wonder if we’re all aliens. Maybe there are other people on other planets; they’re probably just the same as us and struggling with the same things.

Oh Soko.

Video: Spike Jonze’s Mourir Auprès de Toi

The latest short film from Spike Jonze — following last year’s Nick Zinner-assisted robot love story, I’m Here, and this year’s Arcade Fire collaboration, Scenes From the Suburbs — arrived today in the form of Mourir Auprès de Toi (To Die By Your Side), a stop-motion tale of characters from canonized books coming to life in Paris’ famed Shakespeare & Company bookshop. The quirky tragicomedy stars Jonze himself, voicing the skeleton of Macbeth, and French singer/actress SoKo as Mina Harker from Bram Stoker’s Dracula, brought to life through 3,000 hand-cut pieces of felt crafted by handbag designer Olympia Le-Tan. Co-directed by Simon Cahn, the love story closes with a catchy tune sung by SoKo (sounding eerily similar to Jonze’s Where the Wild Things Are collaborator Karen O), whose long-awaited debut LP just got pushed back to February. Check out the animated felt flick above.

Oh that Spike Jonze fella, he sure does know how to make fun and not too obnoxious videos, doesn’t he? It even makes the song better.
