31. Portions for foxes - Rilo Kiley (Jenny Lewis)
It’s time for my 50 ALL-TIME FAVOURITE FEMALE VOCALISTS list! My criteria are simple: they are female of the species, I love their voice, and they have attempted to sing in English at one point in their career. The present list is focused mostly on the quality/uniqueness of their tone (voice box), and their ability to emote the hell out of the songs.
32. Caught a lite sneeze (live) - Tori Amos
33. Why (live) - Annie Lennox
34. Sway - Rosemary Clooney
35. One day - Sharon van Etten
36. Man down - Rihanna
37. Piece of my heart - Janis Joplin
38. Stroker ace - Lovage (Jennifer Charles)
39. Hello (feat. Dragonette/Martina Sorbara) - Martin Solveig
40. Super bass - Nicki Minaj

Think you can wait (feat. Sharon van Etten) - The National (Win Win Soundtrack, 2011)
What a combo of great voices, no? The National recently released this new pretty and of course depressing song they’ve written for a new Paul Giamatti film, Win Win, released later this year. Here’s hoping the film doesn’t suck too bad, considering how awful his last few films were.

Best of 2010 .::. 25 albums | #08. Epic - Sharon Van Etten (Song: One day)
The only complaint I have for this intimate album is that it’s too short. Amongst the singer songwriters to emerge in 2010, Sharon Van Etten is most likely to succeed Chan Marshall as the next sad girl whose record you listen to while cutting your hair, swearing “never again.” Not that anyone can replace Chan, mind you. But I hope they continue to try to come close, whoever they are.
