09. Pagan Poetry - Bjork (Vespertine, 2004)
Bjork uses all of her self in encapsulating, experimenting, and expanding our music landscape, and her formidable vocal ability - like the rest of her artistic talent - truly knows no bound (and apparently no age). This woman can belt out a tune on top of her lungs with the best of them. She does so not for the applause, but in service of her BIG. TIME. SENSUALITY. Because of her complete tie to the visual medium, I will let some of my favourite vocal performances from this wunderkind speak for themselves:
Bachelorette (Homogenic, 1997)
Big Time Sensuality (Debut, 1993)
It’s oh so quiet (Post, 1995)
Still to come on the list: 3 jazz singers, a couple of indie folks, an electronic artist, a rocker, and a rapper!
{My 50 ALL-TIME FAVOURITE FEMALE VOCALISTS list continues (tagged Female Vocalists)! The criteria are simple: they are female of the species, I love their voice, and they have attempted to sing in English at one point in their career. The present list is focused mostly on the quality/uniqueness of their tone (voice box), and their ability to emote the hell out of the songs.}
