17. Protection (feat. Tracey Thorn) - Massive Attack (Protection, 1995)
Tracey also fronted Everything But The Girl, who was most famous for their sultry, wistful, melancholic dance hit, Missing. That song description also applies to Tracey’s voice, which also has something of a holy-water quality about it. She’s like that flightless bird who clings to a destroyed nest, shaking her feathers at the cruel, cruel world outside, waiting to be held in a warm embrace.
I stand in front of you
I’ll take the force of the blow
Protection
{My 50 ALL-TIME FAVOURITE FEMALE VOCALISTS list continues (tagged Female Vocalists)! The criteria are simple: they are female of the species, I love their voice, and they have attempted to sing in English at one point in their career. The present list is focused mostly on the quality/uniqueness of their tone (voice box), and their ability to emote the hell out of the songs.}

Angel - Massive Attack (Mezzanine, 1998)
For V-day, I’m posting a classic Massive Attack track from their masterpiece, Mezzanine. This song has been on my mind a lot as of late, and in heavy rotation on my long trip to and from work. It has surpassed every Massive Attack number to become my number one go-to sexual craving song. It’s so orgasmic, it hurts. Every time I listen to it, my body wants to climb the munkey tree. And then I cry for years. Every. gosh. darn. time.

Paradise Circus (feat. Hope Sandoval) - Massive Attack
There exist a couple of remixes of this epic song (most notably the Gui Boratto version) from Massive Attack’s new album, Heligoland, but the original stands mighty tall on its own. The album is much better than their previous effort post Mezzanine (though it is still not anywhere near Mezzanine), and gives hope yet that the group has not become merely a faint memory of its former self. I mostly want to post this because:
“She will love you like a fly will never love you again.”
A fly?? Does not compute?
