“Wow wow wow” were my first 3 words to describe this song. Granted, it was in consideration of the video that accompanied it, too. Nevertheless, it made me an instant fan, reservation be damned. While I don’t care much for Video Game (her poker hand is too obvious in that one - can you say easy pandering to the video gamers of the internet?), Blue Jeans is a gorgeous flower in full bloom, steeping in epic, tragic emotions that only a persona as big as Lana del Rey - and her sultry pipes - could pull off.
I fell for 1-2 punch Video Games/Blue Jeans, but the more I looked into Lana del Rey’s other videos, the more obvious it was to me that she’s an unfinished persona. She’s yet to be comfortable with the persona she created, mostly because living that persona requires a bit more fleshing out than superimposed images she could gather from films and photographs of “old Hollywood glamour.” Hesitation will only create suspicion. If you’re unsure of who you’re supposed to be, it’s hard for others to buy into the act. She gotta get rid of her doubt and dive all in like Gaga. Fake it ‘til you make it, Lizzy Grant!
Blue jeans - Lana del Rey
Wow, wow, wow. What the heck is this stunning songstress doing entering the game this late into 2011? Is she going to make it big or is she going to make it big? Her debut can’t come soon enough! I think I made my 50 favourite female vocalists a bit too soon?!
